The answer is what you found in the manual. Basically, if it works, great, but 
if it doesn't, well, since it is not fully tested, that means that it isn't 
fully supported.  :-(

In 2.4.0, changing drives for restore seems to work quite well, but I am not 
sure whether it worked or was even tested in 2.2.8.  That said, even in 
2.4.0, we have only tested it in a very limited case, so it is unlikely to 
work in all cases.

The simplest solution is to split the bsr file -- I believe that is documented 
in the manual.  If you don't want to fiddle around splitting the bsr file, 
you could try version 2.4.1-b2 ...  The official release of 2.4.1 will be out 
in a day or two.
