Actually, it might even give us worse performance(marginally) if results of
tests on X86 platform hold to be true.
AGP is not particularly "better" in a performance sense.
It does offer 2 distinct advantages, though:
1) Access to main system memory for extended ZBuffers and texture memory
2) It costs less to make than a comparable PCI card.

The main reason why AGP is a "Good Thing (tm)" is that most of the new
video cards coming out are AGP only, at least AGP mainly, and we might be
"stuck" soon on our Alphas if we don't see a move to AGP..
