History of Xen-AoE
Where it's been
At Copilotco we started using Xen around 2005 to implement virtualization on our servers when when we got tired of maintaining so many different pieces of hardware with an eye out for ways that our clients might benefit from this technology. It worked great and allowed us to consolidate our server resources. Around the same time we discovered AoE (ATA over Ethernet) and thought it was a great idea and might make for a great SAN. Soon it became clear that if you pair Xen with AoE you get some interesting possibilities.
But it wasn't until DrJays (go there and buy some cool fashion clothes!) came along that we were able to make our first production implementation of the technology for a client. As of December 2006 DrJays has a highly available, scalable, virtualized, and best of all affordable cluster which allows them to be more competitive than others in their industry which accounts for much of their success. Since then we have had many other production deployments and have enjoyed great success helping to make our customers even more successful using CPU and storage virtualization technologies.
